작품 해설
이 작품은 신윤복의 <미인도>에서 받은 영감을 바탕으로 쓰였다. 이윤복의 그림은 마치 레오나르도 다 빈치의 <모나리자>와 비견될 것 같이 신비로운 여인이 다소 어색한 표정으로 조심스레 옷고름을 풀고 있다. 치마폭의 선들이 곱게 묘사된 이 그림에서 느끼는 경이로운 아름다움을 음악적으로 표현하고자 하였다.
그림의 이상 야릇하면서도 신비로운 여인을 음악적으로 표현하기 위하여 다소 어색하지만 차츰 신비롭게 변해가는, 그러면서도 여전히 소박함을 잃지 않는 주제 선율을 사용했으며, 이윤복 화가가 당시 이 여인을 보고 그림으로 남기는 과정을 음악적인 이야기로 풀고자 하였다. 과연, 신윤복이 이 그림을 다 그리고 난 뒤, 자신의 그림을 감상할 때의 기분은 이 곡의 결말과 같았을 지 자못 궁금해진다.

Program Note
This piece was inspired by the Yoonbok Shin’s painting, <The beauty>. This painting, which is often compared to Leonardo da Vinci’s <Mona Lisa> in Korea for the mystical beauty of the woman, features a lady undressing in a hesitating manner. I musically depicted the miraculous beauty from this painting where the lines of the skirt were boldly described.
To demonstrate the mystical and erotic character of the woman in the picture, I invented a musical theme that is firstly awkward, but gradually turns into mystical. In addition, I would like to make a musical story-telling of the painting process of Yoonbok Shin. I wonder if the painter felt, when he finished it, the same as the conclusion of the piece.
