모두가 호감을 느끼게 하는 잘 생긴 진행자와 그의 말투, 도전자들이 등장할 때 나오는 시그널 음악, 정답을 알아냈을 때 기분 좋게 울리는 버저 소리, 화려한 불빛에 어울리는 아리따운 여성 퀴즈 도우미, 모든 이의 군침을 돌게 하는 엄청난 상금, 한 단계 한 단계 넘어갈 때마다 펼쳐지는 긴장감 넘치는 배경 음악, 이런 것들이 바로 우리가 흔히 보는 퀴즈 쇼의 전형적인 장치들이다. 도전자들끼리의 변화 무쌍하고 긴장되는 승부는 이러한 퀴즈 쇼의 장치들에 의해 통일성을 띄게 되고 모두가 즐길 수 있는 그야 말로 “쇼”로 구조화 된다. 변화 무쌍한 대결 구조 속에서도 퀴즈 쇼를 지탱하는 것은 이러한 장치들에 의한 “상투성”이다. 예술에서의 가장 중요한 두 가지 요소인 변화와 통일성은 이 퀴즈 쇼에서도 구현된다.
Program Note
There are a number of things that typically remind us pertaining to quiz shows: handsome-looking show hosts and their eloquent accompaniments, signal music for the entrance of competitors, pleasant-sounding buzzer, splendor lights, the huge amount of money for the winner and the background sound for the accumulated tension on every stage. These typical installations of the TV stage have every changeable quiz competition structured and the intensive contest becomes the enjoyable show. The quiz show relies on both changeability and banality, which are the two main factors in art.
