작품 해설
한 겨울, 우연히 길을 걷다 한 송이, 두 송이 눈이 내리기 시작하는 자연적 변화는 신비로움, 바로 그 자체이다. 스산한 겨울 바람과 함께 눈송이들이 서서히 흩날리기 시작하다 함박눈으로 변해 온 세상을 하얗게 덮기 시작하면 갑자기 주위가 온통 고요해진다. 이런 날이면 누구든지 자신이 사랑하는 사람과 함께 그 날을 보내고 싶은 마음이 드는 법이다.
이 작품은 이렇게 눈 내리는 장면을 낭만적으로 묘사한 작품이다. 하나의 눈 결정체에서 일정한 기하학적 패턴을 찾을 수 있듯이, 이 작품에서는 몇 가지 반복적으로 등장하는 타악기적인 패턴들이 악곡을 주도하며, 마치 바람에 흩날리는 눈송이와 같이 리듬과 박자, 그리고 패턴은 자유롭게 변화해 나간다. 그러한 패턴과 함께 변화하는 색채적인 선법과 화성도 마치 바람에 춤을 추듯 변화한다. 악곡의 중간 부분은 반주 부분의 부드러운 온음계적 음송이(Cluster)와 낭만적 선율과 화성을 통해 서서히 날리던 눈송이들이 점점 더 많아져 고요히 함박눈으로 변하는 것을 묘사함과 동시에 세상이 하얗게 덮이는 그 경이로운 모습에 넘치는 감정을 그리고 있다. 후반부에는 다시 눈이 날리며 서서히 눈이 그치는 것을 아쉽게 여운으로 처리하였다.

Program Note
In the middle of winter, it is literally a mystical phenomenon in nature that snowflakes start coming down one by one. Snowflakes start swirling about by chilly wind and then slowly change into large snow covering up the entire world that soon transform into the total serenity. In such a day, anybody would like to spend the rest of day with someone he or she loves.
This piece romantically depicts the process of getting snow in winter. As snowflakes have geometrical patterns in each way, in this piece, several percussive patterns, which repeatedly appear, unfold the piece. The frequent change in rhythm, meter and pattern describes the swirling snowflakes. With the patterns changing, the alternation of the mode and harmony generates the wave of colors in sound. In the middle of the piece, the music portrays the growing snow, which brings the total calmness to the world, and the miraculous moment where the whole scenery is covered by snow through the use of mild diatonic clusters in accompaniment and the melody with dramatic emotion. The end of the piece depicts snowflakes restarting swirling and then slowly stopping coming down with a lingering sound.
